Engineering student Isaiah Kerr slowly turned a hand crank on a small tension-testing device on which Dr. Hafizur Rahman had placed a thin, finger-long 3D-printed cylinder. As Kerr exerted more pressure, the bar snapped at the point where a sharp-edge notch was located.
