Dr. Vijay Devabhaktuni

Biography
Vijay Devabhaktuni joined Illinois State University in 2023 as the Founding Chair and Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering. Between 2018 and 2021, he worked for Purdue University Northwest, a regional campus of Purdue University, as the Chair of its Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Between 2021 and 2023, he worked for University of Maine (an R1 Carnegie classified institution) as the Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and concurrently held the Norman Stetson ECE Professorship. He secured external funding close to $5M in his research areas (sponsoring agencies include AFOSR, AFRL, CFI, NASA, NIST, NSERC, NSF, ONR, and industry partners). He authored around 250 peer reviewed research publications, which are highly cited. In Canada and USA, he graduated 75+ thesis students at MS and PhD levels and won student nominated teaching excellence awards at multiple universities. Dr. Devabhaktuni loves to innovate engineering and STEM education by fostering industry engagement and interdisciplinary research at undergraduate level. Dr. Devabhaktuni is passionate about faculty/staff success, student success, and recruitment/retention of minority/underrepresented students.
